My art is an evolving narrative shaped by my experiences as a first-generation immigrant from the Philippines and the rich cultural tapestry of Hawai'i. Recently, my work has delved into the history of Filipino immigration during the Sugar Plantation Period, exploring how it has influenced local culture and my identity. Drawing from archival research, including documents and images from university libraries and plantation foundations, I create dynamic compositions using screenprint, acrylic, and oil paint. My goal is to capture the resilience and journey of my ancestors while reflecting on the ongoing process of growth, adaptation, and identity. Through this, I hope to connect with others who, like me, are part of a diaspora, navigating cultural complexities within Hawai'i’s diverse community.
